I've been wanting to post about it for a while, but I decided to wait until both covers were released so we could compare - which one do you prefer, the UK or the US one? (see below, click to enlarge) I honestly can't decide, I don't dislike either and I don't really care about the cover in this case, I just want to read the book NOW!
Release dates: 15 October 2010 (UK) & 9 November 2010 (US)
Edie Burchill and her mother have never been close, but when a long lost letter arrives one Sunday afternoon with the return address of Millderhurst Castle, Kent, printed on its envelope, Edie begins to suspect that her mother’s emotional distance masks an old secret.Doesn't it sound AMAZING? Watch the trailer below too! Honestly, words cannot express how excited I am about this book, I need it now now NOW! :D
Evacuated from London as a thirteen year old girl, Edie’s mother is chosen by the mysterious Juniper Blythe, and taken to live at Millderhurst Castle with the Blythe family: Juniper, her twin sisters and their father, Raymond. In the grand and glorious Millderhurst Castle, a new world opens up for Edie’s mother. She discovers the joys of books and fantasy and writing, but also, ultimately, the dangers.
Fifty years later, as Edie chases the answers to her mother’s riddle, she, too, is drawn to Millderhurst Castle and the eccentric Sisters Blythe. Old ladies now, the three still live together, the twins nursing Juniper, whose abandonment by her fiancé in 1941 plunged her into madness.
Inside the decaying castle, Edie begins to unravel her mother’s past. But there are other secrets hidden in the stones of Millderhurst Castle, and Edie is about to learn more than she expected. The truth of what happened in the distant hours has been waiting a long time for someone to find it . . .

Sounds awesome. I love the cover too :) Great pick as usual :)
Ooh exciting! I think I like the US one better because it's all dreamy looking. The UK one looks like the Pearly Gates or is that just me.
Wow the trailer and synopsis does the book more favours than the cover...I'm totally in this...I WANT TO READ IT TOO!
Great find ;)
I just put this book on my TBR list. Thanks for sharing; it does sound great. I especially like the US cover, but both are pretty great.
Ooooh yes, I'm waiting for this one too. I much prefer the UK cover, but to be honest even it had the most disgusting cover ever known I would STILL want to read it, desperately!
Yeeeeeees! As you know, I LOVED LOVED LOVED both of Kate Morton's books so far, and I can't wait for The Distant Hours to FINALLY come out!!! I'm so excited!!! Both covers are great, but I kind of prefer the UK cover. It really gives off a mysterious vibe. But I agree, who cares about the cover in this case, haha? I want to read this book! I'll probably pre-order, if I know myself at all, lol.
sounds great Ohhh hard to pick both covers look lovely hmmm
I LOVED The Shifting Fog and The Forgotten! You're right...it does sound AMAZING! And it's one of my most anticipated books of the year too :-) Not too sure about the covers though...
Wow, that trailer almost feels like it's for a horror movie! The book sounds great, though. I'm glad you've posted about it because now I want to read it. Oh, I like the US version better. I find the border so pretty!
I have an award for you at my blog!
Thanks for posting about this, I am so excited about it, I loved The Forgotten Garden, this looks as though it's going to be fantastic too!
I'm so late with this comment! I can't wait for this book though, so I just had to post my late comment! Kate Morton's books are amazing, and I really like the sound of this one. All the same, I'm not in love with either cover, but if pressed, I'll have to go for the UK one. In any case, with this one, the cover doesn't matter to me (for once!) cos' the book is gonna be amazing! :)
