Cover Win / Fail #2

It's time for another Cover Win/Fail feature! I have so many of these lined up, but I'm planning to take it slowly, maybe one every week or every two weeks. If you're not familiar with this feature, it's basically just where I spotlight two covers - one that I love and one that I don't love all that much. As always, I mean no offence, I'm just expressing my humble personal opinion and you're more than welcome to disagree. :)
On to this week's picks!

Cover WIN: Living la Vida Loca by Belinda Jones
I absolutely *adore* this cover! The book's not out yet and I have to admit I'm not too blown away by the plot summary, but gosh the cover is just breathtaking! Gorgeous illustration, wonderful colours, pretty text, simply amazing! I can tell that someone put a lot effort into designing this cover and it really paid off! I have such a strong urge to own this book and just stare at it, even if I never read it, lol.

Cover FAIL: The Sweetheart of Prosper County by Jill S. Alexander
I still remember how this cover had me raising my eyebrows the first time I saw it months ago when someone reviewed the book and it stayed on my mind ever since, heh. Sadly I found the cover so off-putting that it took me ages to even bother finding out why there's a cock on the cover and now I know that this book (which doesn't even sound that bad) features a prize-winning rooster - well, the cover may thus be fitting, but *I* still think it's not the best choice for the cover image. I know I'd never pick it up in a book shop, let alone spend money on it, but that's just silly ol' me.

What do you think about these two covers? Alternative opinions are always welcome!

'Till next time, darlings. ;)

ps: It's Friday so you know what that means - time for another Book Blogger Hop, hosted by Crazy for Books! Don't forget to visit her site and participate in The Hop, it's a fun way to find great new book blogs! :)

I agree... LOVE Living la Vida Loca, really don't like the other and it would completely put me off too.

I totally agree!

Well, yes. That cover is awful xD

LMFAO! Yeah, hehe, that cover would Put Me Off like no-one's business. I'd be too embarrassed to be caught reading the blurb on it, not to mention actually holding it for an entire few minutes or so while walking towards the counter, pulling out my purse and waiting for the person behind the counter (who'd probably be wondering what kind of a weirdo buys books with cock's on the covers ... jeez, that even sounds terrible) to hide it in a plastic packet, already :P

I must be in the minority. I don't really love cartoons on covers. I think it makes the content seem like fluff/childish or something...I don't know what it is I'm just not a fan. I don't think it's memorable. I do like the font, though. But the Prosper County cover is simple and stands out - so much that you remembered it months later (OK, maybe in a negative way, but you *did* remember it.) And I adore the font and the heart in "sweetheart." It's not my favorite cover ever, but it would make me pick the book up and read the back to say, "Why the heck is there a rooster with a heart ribbon on this book??" It's so different from anything else I've seen.

I could not agree more!

And cannot WAIT for Belinda's book!

Heather - I indeed agree that the cover stands out and it's memorable, but as I said, it took me ages to bother finding out what the book is about and I probably never found if I hadn't decided to feature it here, heh. Thanks for your opinion though - I love it how tastes differ! I personally love cartoon covers, they're my favourites, whereas the simple cover just don't work for me personally. But to each their own! :)

Oh and Bella - LOL, that was harsh but hilarious! :D

I can't stand the chicken cover. No way would I include that in my collection!

This is such a great feature! I have to agree with you, the one on the left is so much better. The other cover would definitely make me take a second look, but for the wrong reason!

Take two ;) I’m the typo queen today.

The first cover is gorgeous! The second one is not a book I’d read based on cover alone plus books about prize winning roosters aren’t something I usually read ;)

I'm with Heather I don't like cartoony covers. To me the first one is WAY too busy...kinda gives me a headache. The other one, on the other hand, is simple and yes, stands out...good or bad! Like Heather I also like the font for the second one.

It is really interesting the different tastes in covers. Some of the covers I see people praising...I"m kinda like "meh". Guess I'm weird! :)

Ew I don't like the second one at all! I think you made the right decision :)

I agree that the first one is cute, but I can't help loving the rooster. He's so adorable with his big prize-bow! :-D

I agree with the fail one!! It's really plain and doesn't stick out.

I love the Living la Vida Loca cover, but I think I like all of Belinda Jones' covers. The fail one just makes me think 'eh?', I don't really get it.

Ohh I so perfectly agree with you! The Living la Vida Loca is just beautiful and I would just by it because I love the cover. The graphic cartoon style is awesome. I like that!

What shall I say about the cock... No words for this , even it if it IS about a cock looking at such a cover.. *shakes head* *searching for word*...

That cover is adorable!
Well- not really. More..... sophisticated and fun :)

The other one.... Well- I agree. I would NOT spend money on a book with this cover. And I'm a huge 'judge a book by its cover kind of person'! If I see a nice colourful COVER, I'm more likely to pick it up, and buy it- so yep! I agree with everything you wrote.
